New ATO cybercrime protection

Due to the increasing threat of cyber-crime and identity theft, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has implemented a new “client-to-agent linking” requirement for entities, excluding sole traders. It applies to those with an Australian Business Number (ABN) to ensure that only authorised tax agents can access your ATO accounts.

This tax agent nomination requirement will apply when new entities are added to our tax agent list, or when there are new authorisations for existing entities.

The nomination process requires you to have access to the ATO’s online services for business and will require the setting up of your digital ID profile, myGovID, if you do not have one already. Once you are able to access the ATO’s online services for business for your entity, you can log in to nominate EQ8 as your tax agent. As we do not receive automatic notification from the ATO of such activities, it is important to advise us that we have been nominated.

While we are unable to perform the nomination process on your behalf, as it involves your myGovID, we are always ready to help if you encounter any difficulties.

Please contact your EQ8 representative for further details.
